Activism

  1. +After moving to San Francisco late 2009, I sought experience in youth development by volunteering with the Japanese Community Youth Council, the largest employer of youth in San Francisco. In less than six months, I was hired and promoted to project manager, designing a brand new youth employment program: San Francisco Bridges To Success. One year later, I managed all of JCYC’s Summer Workforce Programs, providing subsidized work experience to those challenged in their attempts to access employment.

  1. +For two consecutive years, I served as the Public Relations Officer for the Student Advisory Council for the San Francisco Unified School District. Under the direction of the Youth Leadership Institute, we gathered 800 students across 18 high schools for the "1st Annual Youth Summit: Solutions to Address Safety & Sexual Harassment." We also presented resolutions to the school board rebuking the Superintendent's pay increase during budget crisis and mandating schools to provide sanitary measures in school restroom. The Youth Leadership Institute also sent our group to Youth Leadership Conferences in Nashville, TN, and then hosting on in San Francisco. 2004 - 2005.

  1. +During my participation in the SFYouthworks internship program, I was a member of the Youth Leadership Team. In addition to workshops promoting open-mindedness and career development, we organized the "2005 Class Rooms Gone Wild: Youth Target Budget Cuts Forum" addressing the affects of budget cuts in the San Francisco Unified School District. 2004 - 2005.

  2. +In 2004, I served as a Student Advisory Council representative & panelist on the San Francisco Youth Commission "Hearing on Sexual Assault and Harassment in Schools."

  1. +After completing coursework at UCLA, I served humanity professionally through increasing awareness of helpful films. "Dying to Live" provides support to those dealing with health issues. "Meth Inside Out" is a treatment tool that helps users find recovery through understanding.

  2. +In 2009, the sisters of Tau Theta Pi volunteered our time, money, and energy to cook and clean for a Los Angeles Homeless transition program called PATH - People Assisting The Homeless. Earlier that school year, as Special Events Chair of Tau Theta Pi, the collaborative efforts of our sisterhood and other philanthropic organizations throughout Southern California raised $400 for the American Breast Cancer Foundation.

  1. +With time to spare and uncontrollable urge to care, I started a personal project to collect donations for Ondoy Relief. Being apart from my usual charitable organizations, and finding little resources in San Francisco, I turned to my network of family and friends for their in-kind donations of clothing, medical supplies, and toiletries. 2009.

  2. +In 2004, as President of the San Francisco Chinatown Leo's Club, I directed and produced the Annual Charity Ball. We successfully raised over $2,000 and donated to the Red Cross to support their efforts following Hurricane Katrina.

  1. +As a member and past President of the SF Chinatown Leo's Club, we spent Sunday mornings with the folks at On Lok Self Help for the Elderly for two consecutive years. The mission of the San Francisco Chinatown Leo's Club is, "to create and foster a spirit of understanding among all people through community involvement and international cooperation." Those interested can find a local chapter at Washington, Lowell, Saint Ignacius and Chinese Newcomer High School. 2003 - 2005.

  2. +As a volunteer for the San Francisco Chinatowns Lion's Club, I assisted in fundraising efforts as well as volunteering during their Health Fair in San Francisco's Chinatown, 2004. I also served as a Bilingual Computer Education Volunteer for immigrant children at the San Francisco Chinese Newcomer Service.

  3. +In 2003, I was crowned Miss Teen Charity at the 37th Annual Miss Teen Chinatown Fundraiser Gala. The title is awarded to the contestant that raises the most money for Charity. The funds are distributed by the San Francisco Chinatown Lions Club for various wellness efforts like the Vision Care Services Foundation.

  1. +As an intern for the development department of the Center for Asian American Media, I assisted in the event production of the 30th Anniversary Gala, celebrating 30 years of presenting the richness and diversity of Asian American stories. The Gala generated media attention and $50,000 in donations supporting the continuing reach of the artists who document the varying Asian American experiences.
